Tournament Rules

Registration: All teams must be registered prior to the start of the tournament (this includes submitting proof of insurance.) Failure to comply may result in forfeiture of games or expulsion from the event. Player registration is to be completed three days prior to the start of the tournament (See ‘Rosters’ below). All rostered players must be born in the calendar year which aligns with the division they are competing in (i.e., ‘2009 Division’ = born in 2009). *Underage players (i.e., 2010-born player competing in 2009 division) are considered eligible, provided they do not play on another team within the tournament. Players may be required to show proof of age – if requested by a tournament official only. Players who are unable to immediately produce ID (any government-issued documentation) will be removed from the eligible roster until such time that sufficient proof can be shown. Any completed game(s) which have included an ineligible player shall be deemed a forfeit for the offending team.

Rosters: All players must have a parent or guardian complete the online team waiver three days prior to the start of the tournament. Each player is only allowed to be on ONE team’s roster during the tournament. The maximum number of rostered players allowed is 19.

Rosters are frozen after the first game. All rostered players including APs must play in 1 non-playoff game to be eligible to play in the playoffs of their division.

Team Insurance: All teams are required to carry $5,000,000 in liability insurance. In order to complete your registration, please send your proof of insurance to BCSC@ietournaments.com

Jerseys: It is the responsibility of the HOME team to wear DARK-coloured jerseys. The AWAY team must wear LIGHT-coloured jerseys. In the case of teams with only one set of jerseys, mutual arrangements may be made between the two teams involved prior to the start of the game. Team officials should check on this well in advance of the scheduled start time to avoid a problem at game time.

Handshake: Teams line up on blue lines immediately after the game for MVP award presentations. Once completed, players can line up to shake hands.

Game Sheet: All player statistics are final once the game has been completed. An exception will be made for errors. Any changes to the game sheet must only be submitted by the team manager or coach, not the parents. Changes will only be accepted via email and must be emailed to BCSC@ietournaments.com. Please include the team name, division, game time, and specific request (e.g., Second period goal or assist attributed to #4 Jake Smith but should be attributed to #7 John Doe). Any changes to the game results (score) must be submitted via email by both team managers and will be reviewed by the Tournament Committee prior to approval.

Forfeit: A team that does not present itself for a game will be subject to expulsion from the tournament (at the discretion of the Disciplinary Committee). All forfeited games will be 1-0 score and no refunds will be given.

Zero Tolerance: There will be NO tolerance of referee abuse. Offenders will be ejected from the game. The referees will be instructed to give a single warning before ejecting any coach from the game. Any coach ejected from more than one game will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament. Any unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. Abusive spectators will be required to leave the premises. We therefore ask that all managers & coaches instruct their parents & players to understand all tournament rules.

Ice Time Allocation:

a) Warm up: Pre-game warm-ups will be four minutes.

b) Game Length: Each round robin game will be 3 x 15-minute stop time periods, time permitted. Games cannot go over their scheduled 1 hour and 15 min time slot. Adjustments will be made for the third period to accommodate the time slot. If adjustment is required for 3rd period, the calculation will be as follows:

½ the time of day remaining in the ice slot PLUS two minutes

All playoff games will be 3 x 15 minutes, except if there are extenuating circumstances that would not allow for this.

Mercy Rule: If there is a five-goal differential, game play will be switched to running time, in the second and third period only. If the differential drops to less than 5 goals, stop time will resume.

c) Delays: The tournament reserves the right to adjust times to accommodate for delays in schedules, but this is only enacted by the tournament officials, not the referees.

d) Time Outs: Each team is permitted to use one 30-second time-out per game.

Tournament Rules:

***Our Tournament follows the current BC Hockey/PCAHA Rulebooks***

2017 Team Managers:

All rules of hockey will apply to this division with the exception that delayed offsides will be blown down automatically. This division will also include ‘change on the fly’.

Protests:

No protests will be accepted. Referee decisions are final unless overruled by the Tournament Director.

Standings After Round Robin: Tie Break Rules

Tie Breaker:

**NOTE**: Once the first seeded team is identified in the 3 or more-team tie breaker, the process begins back at the “2 Team” format, and is repeated until all ties are resolved.

Example: 3 teams are tied. We use the 3-team tie break format to identify the top team. After that, the remaining 2 teams go back to the 2-team tie break format for their placing.

When 2 teams are tied:

1) Head-to-Head record

2) Team with the greatest number of wins

3) Team with fewest goals against

4) Team with most goals

5) Team with the least amount of penalty minutes

6) Coin Toss

When 3 or more teams are tied:

1) Team with the greatest number of wins

2) Team with fewest goals against

3) Team with most goals

4) Team with the least amount of penalty minutes

5) Coin Toss

Overtime:

a) No overtime during Round Robin and Consolation Play

b) Playoffs/Final: There will be a 5-minute, stop-time, 4-on-4 sudden death period to determine the winner. The team will remain in the same ends of the ice as the third period. If no winner is decided during the overtime, a 3-man shoot-out will decide the game. If still tied after the first 3, there will be a sudden death shoot-out. **Each team must use every player on the bench before allowing the first shooter to go again. Players will shoot alternately at each end until the match is decided.

Tournament Points: Two points will be allocated to the winning team, one point to each team for a tie, and zero to the losing team.

Body Checking: There is NO body contact in all female divisions (and no contact in the male 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 divisions). Body checking is only permitted in the male 2009, 2010 and 2011 age groups.

Major Penalties:

a) CHECKING FROM BEHIND / Hitting to the Head, and Player Ejections:

Check from Behind

If a player receives a two (2) minute or five (5) minute penalty, a ten (10) minute game misconduct will be included in the call. Review the breakdown below for further discipline.

All two (2) minute “Check From Behind” penalties are accompanied with a ten (10) minute game misconduct, and result in removal during current game. If the penalty is in the final ten (10) minutes of game play, it will result in one (1) additional game suspension, which must be served during the following scheduled game.

Check to the Head

Two (2) Minute Minor: Incidental contact

Four (4) Minute Double Minor: Incidental contact

Five (5) Minute: Head is primary / Intentional + Automatic Ten (10) Minute Game Misconduct

All five (5) minute penalties are accompanied by a ten (10) minute game misconduct, result in removal during current game, AND one (1) additional game suspension, which must be served during the following scheduled game.

A second five (5) minute penalty for a participant during the tournament will result in automatic removal from current and all remaining games.

b) GROSS and/or MATCH PENALTIES: The player will be ejected from the tournament.

c) FIGHTING: Any fighting majors will result in an automatic game ejection. The Disciplinary Committee, as deemed necessary, may implement further suspensions.

TOURNAMENT PARTICIPATION: Tournament directors have the right to remove any team, team manager, team parents, or players involved with the tournament.
